The HAWAII series is available for purchase. After receiving such positive feedback from the donated Hanalei Bay Waipa Fund painting, I decided to create a series celebrating the islands. Original acrylic paintings and limited fine art prints from the series are available for purchase. Head to the shop to pick one up.
Why did I paint this looser, whimsical series in the middle of tackling I AM WATER?
I AM WATER might be a love letter to the ocean, but HAWAII is a love letter to this special volcanic archipelago in the middle of the Pacific. I have always felt connected to Hawaii, and I mean beyond the general good vibes you get from a vacation. This is where the mountains meet the sea. This is where diverse landscapes collide harmoniously. This is where people live aloha. I am lucky to have traveled to Kauai, Maui, Oahu, and Hawaii multiple times. The islands were an obvious choice for a vacation destination for my Seattle-based family throughout my childhood. Turns out the cold, rainy winters are only tolerable for so long. As soon as I step off the plane in Princeville, Kona, or Kahului, I'm hit with smells that are almost familial. Can one be homesick for a place that was never even considered home? I'm sure the French have a word for that feeling. They always seem to.
Maybe one day I'll call the islands home, and I won't have to figure out a word for that feeling I get every time I visit.
